The Christian King by Wilson Barrett
The Christian King by Wilson Barrett (18 February 1846 22 September 1904). First produced at the Princes Theatre in Bristol on 6th November 1902 and the Adelphi Theatre in London on 18th December 1902. King Alfred is in an unlikely red cloak. Wilson Barett was both a playwright and actor and starred as King Alfred (or, Alfred of Engle-Land) in this production. The caption reads The Burning of the Cakes (Act IV scene 1). The image is reproduced in an undated David Allen poster catalogue, no. 373. Date: 1902
