The Hesse-Cassel and Greek royal families

The youngest daughters of Vicky, Princess Royal of Great Britain and Empress of Prussia, the Princesses Sophie and Margarete of Prussia with their husbands and children at Friedrichshof in 1904. Sophie is in the darker dress, standing beside her husband Constantine, Duke of Sparta. Margarete ('Mossy') is on the right, next to her husband Friedrich Karl of Hesse-Cassel. The children are, from the left, George of Greece (standing), Philipp of Hesse-Cassel, Helen of Greece, Maximilian of Hesse-Cassel, Paul of Greece (behind, in a dress), Wolfgang of Hsse-Cassel, directly in front of his elder brother Friedrich Wilhelm, Alexander of Greece in front of Richard of Hesse-Cassel and Christoph of Hesse-Cassel. Margarete was unusual in that out of her six sons, four of them were sets of twins

A Madame Yevonde portrait of Baba Beaton

Miss Baba Beaton is the younger of the two beautiful and attractive Beaton girls. They are among the most popular of the blonde ex-debs, and no party is complete without them. Both Miss Nancy and Miss Baba Beaton have often been photographed by their clever brother, but this double portrait is not one of Mr Cecil Beaton's camera studies. Madame Yevonde was a prolific and ground-breaking society portrait and commercial photographer active between 1915 and 1975. She is particularly well-known for her astonishingly modern work using the Vivex colour process during the 1930's. Her images of society folk and other personalities appeared regularly in The Sketch or The Tatler through the 1920's and 30's

Mr Malcolm Scott as Salome

Mr Malcolm Scott, Robert Falcon Scott's Brother (!!). Scott was one of the most famous female impersonators. He started his career as a straight actor at the Theatre Royal in Margate in 1886 but soon began to specialise in playing women. His performances were not as caricatured as the typical dame parts in pantomime. Among his best loved characters were Elizabeth I, Nell Gwyn, Boadicea and (as pictured here) Salome. Date: circa 1908
