Blanchard and Jeffries crossing English Channel
Jean-Pierre Blanchard and Dr John Jeffries crossing the English Channel by balloon. They left Dover, crossed the sea, and landed near Blanay, between Calais and Boulogne. It was the first aerial crossing of the English Channel. Pictured is the French coast at Calais, with jubilant spectators, ships and boats.

Entrance of Louis XVIII into Paris
Scene on the Pont Neuf, Paris, during the entrance of King Louis XVIII into Paris, with Sophie Blanchard in flight overhead in her balloon. When Louis entered Paris after being restored to the French throne, Blanchard ascended in her balloon as part of the triumphal procession.
