Page from The Bystander magazine illustrating two contrasting dances - the Lambeth Walk as painted by William Roberts at the top, and the Palais Glide, seen here demonstrated in the bottom photograph at Lady Malcolm's Servants' Ball held at the Albert Hall. The Big Wheel and Tower, Blackpool, Lancashire Featured Print

The Big Wheel and Tower, Blackpool, Lancashire

The Big Wheel and Tower, Blackpool, Lancashire. The posters on the right are advertising a lecture to be given by Ellis Ashmead-Bartlett, war correspondent during the First World War and outspoken critic of the Gallipoli Campaign, branding it: "the most ghastly and costly fiasco in our history since the battle of Bannockburn." Having been dispatched home (in no uncertain terms) and finding himself short of money, Ashmead-Bartlett undertook a lecture tour of England and Australia in late 1915 (giving us a nice accurate date for this card). Date: 1915
