King George VI & his wife Queen Elizabeth(the Queen Mother)
An early, undated photograph of a smiling King George VI (1895-1952), and his wife Queen Elizabeth(the Queen Mother)(1900-2002)at Ballater railway station, Scotland. Dressed informally, with the Queen Mother sporting a cloche hat and an off the shoulder fur stole, they are accompanied by a dog on a leash, and followed by a railway worker. Ballater was the nearest railway station to Balmoral Castle, until it was then closed by the British Railways Board in 1966, as part of the "Beeching cuts".
