Cartoon, The Throne. Showing the leaders of the four Central Powers gathered round the Austrian throne. Seated on the throne itself are the German Kaiser Wilhelm II (left) and Charles I of Austria (Karl Franz Joseph Ludwig Hubert Georg Otto Marie, right), who succeeded Emperor Franz Joseph in 1916 (seen here in the form of a rug under their feet). Seated on either side are King Ferdinand of Bulgaria (left) and Mehmed V of Turkey (right). Wilhelm and Charles are squashed together on the throne -- Wilhelm says: If it's a bit of a tight fit, I'll bring you a little chair. Date: 1917
