The compleat Angler (Derby Scheme)

Caricature of Prime Minister Herbert Asquith attempting to catch fish, representing men of age able to fight in WW1. The fish in the net represent married men who had already volunteered (attested), awaiting to be called upon. The rest of the fish represent those men who had not attested and Asquith difficulty in persuading them to attest (highlighted by the net with large gaps), through the compulsion bill. Date: 1916
