Intensively populated illustration by Tony Wysard, showing imagined diners at the restaurant at Denham Studios. Illustration includes a key to all caricatures portrayed but include David Niven and Gracie Fields (table 7), Rex Harrison, Lawrence Olivier and Vivien Leigh (table 5), and Charles Laughton (table 12). The artist shows himself peeping into the picture top left. Denham Studios covered over 28 acres in a 165 acre estate. There were seven sound stages, two of which were air-conditioned and the largest in Europe. Date: 1937

Two performers acting out The Confession at Le Ciel - Montmartre, Paris Cabaret Nightclub. The Cabaret du Ciel (Cabaret of Heaven) was an early version of modern theme restaurants, with a theme centered around celestial concepts connected to the afterlife in Paradise. Inside the restaurant, beer was served, and the customers were greeted by acts such as angels playing music, St. Peter sprinkling holy water from the heavens, as well as reenactments of scenes related to Dante's Inferno. Date: circa 1905

The play Androcles and the Lion by George Bernard Shaw at the St James's Theatre, London. The emperor places his foot on the lion's head while Androcles keeps the beast quiet, and shows his power in this way as well as by pardoning the Christians. Leon Quartermaine is the emperor; Edward Sillward is the lion; O.P. Heggie is Androcles. Date: 1913
