The flags original design (with a six-pointed Commonwealth Star - as shown on this card) was chosen in 1901 from entries in a worldwide competition held following Federation, and was first flown in Melbourne on 3 September 1901. In 1908, a seventh point was added (to the Commonwealth Star) to symbolise the Territory of Papua and any future territories. Date: circa 1907
