A photographic portrait of Ferdinand I, King of Bulgaria (1861-1948), often known as Foxy Ferdinand, or the Balkan Fox. Bulgaria entered World War I in 1915 on the side of the Central Alliance (Germany & Austria-Hungary) in the hope of recovering Macedonia, lost to Greece & Serbia after the Balkan Wars of 1912-13. He was forced to abdicate in 1918 and was succeeded by his son, Boris III
