Family camp, Quex Park
In early August Major Powell-Cotton put up some tents that he had used on his expeditions to make a camp for his daughters in a field on the estate. This photograph shows Hannah Powell-Cotton sitting near one of the tents with her three daughters. Diana Powell-Cotton (1908-1886) is standing behind her mother, May Powell-Cotton (1910-1998) is sitting on her mothers lap and Antoinette Powell-Cotton ) is sitting on the ground. The Quex Park VAD Hospital opened on 15 October 1914 and closed on 31 January 1919. The hospital was run by Kent/178, the Birchington Detachment. The Commandant was Hannah Powell-Cotton (1881-1964), wife of Major Percy HG Powell-Cotton (1866-1940) of of Quex Park, founder of the Powell-Cotton Museum. Date: 1916
