American actress, Elsie Janis posing for a picture looking very fetching in a land workers outfit during the First World War. Elsie Janis (March 16, 1889 February 26, 1956) was an American singer, songwriter, actress, and screenwriter. Entertaining the troops during World War I immortalized her as the sweetheart of the AEF (American Expeditionary Force). The photograph bears a striking resemblance to picture number 10472401 - a drawing of a land girl on a postcard by amateur soldier artist George Ranstead. It seems likely that Ranstead saw and copied this photograph of Janis. Date: 1917. Wood effect frame, card mounted, 10x8 fade resistant photo print. Overall outside dimensions 14x12 inches (36x31cm). Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass).
