East Lynne adapted from Mrs Henry (Ellen) Woods novel written in 1861. So many dramatisations of the novel were written and rewritten that it is not possible to specify an author. The Bullock version was so-called because a policeman called Bullock was inserted into the melodrama for comic effect. Wilson Barretts company touring to the Theatre Royal, Bath, on 21st May 1906.
