The Earl of Carnarvon the initiator of the explorations in the Valley of the Kings. Born in 1866, Carnarvon sponsored Howard Carters excavations of the royal tombs in Thebes. He died shortly after the discovery of Tutankhamens tomb in 1923, perpetuating the myth of The Curse of Tutankhamen
