Crowd at wedding of Princess Patricia of Connaught
Part of the record crowd outside Westminster Abbey at the wedding of Princess Patricia of Connaught to Captain Alexander Ramsay on 17 February 1919. It was the first royal wedding to take place at Westminster Abbey in over 600 years. The popularity of the Princess, who relinquished her royal title and became Lady Patricia Ramsay on her marriage, and the fact that the event came in the aftermath of World War I, meant that unprecedented numbers of spectators filled the London streets for the event. This picture shows mounted police clearing a way for the bridal carriage. Date: 1919
