Cholera precautions in England

A sketch of the sailors hospital. Fires were used to prevent the infection spreading from the hospital. In September 1892, Dr R. Thorne, the chief medical officer of the Local Government Board stated that no case of cholera was known to exist in the British Isles and the public could rest assured that the disease had been stamped out. A few cases were brought into ports from Hamburg, but these were successfully confined to the carriers. Date: 1892
