Charles Darwin statue unveiled, 1885
Unveiling the statue of the late Charles Darwin in the Natural History Museum, South Kensington, London. The white marble statue was sculpted by Mr. Boehm, R.A, and is placed on a pedestal on the top of the flight of steps facing the entrance hall. The Prince of Wales and Professor Huxley, president of the Royal Society, gave speeches at the unveiling, which was also attended by a large gathering of literary and scientific men.The Graphic magazine reports that " the likeness[of Darwin] is pronounced to be exceedingly chararcteristic"
