Charles Coburn

Charles Coburn (June 19, 1877 August 30, 1961) billed here as The Tramp Comedian, Vocalist, Reciter and Story Merchant. The text refers to The Man Who Broke the Bank at Monte Carlo (1890). With Two Lovely Black Eyes (1886). This song made Coburn a huge music hall star, but by 1926, the date of this card, the vogue for the 74 year old had waned and he was trying to boost his popularity by walking long distances between appearances. The card boasts of walks totalling 3000 miles, including London to John O Groats. Caricature drawn by Thomas Downey. Printers, Willsons Leicester. Date: 1950
