Bloody Sunday riot in Trafalgar Square
On 13th November 1887 a demonstration organised by the Social Democratic Federation and the Irish National League in Trafalgar Square in London turned into a riot after police and troops tried to break it up. Depicted here is a struggle in St Martins Lane as police dispersed a procession marching from Clerkenwell Green. The police made strenuous efforts to capture the banners which were rallying points for the crowd
