Otto von Bismarck, Prime Minister of Prussia from 18621890 is almost assassinated by Ferdinand Cohen-Blind, a democrat who hoped to prevent a war among the German states. Bismarck was shot at five times at close range but survived; Cohen-Blind committed suicide while in custody. Date: 8th May 1866
