Photograph of Andrew Comyn Irvine (1902-24), the British climber, working on an oxygen bottle in the Everest Expedition camp, 1924. Irvine, although a relatively inexperienced climber, was an expert in the maintainence and repair of oxygen tanks and it was for this skill that he was chosen to accompany George Leigh Mallory for their fatal attempt on Everest.
