Alton Towers, England - the monument to Earl Charles
The Choragic Monument to Earl Charles was commissioned in the 1820s by the nephew of Earl Charles and stands near the entrance of the gardens at Alton Towers, now a adventure park and fairground.
It was Charless plan to turn Alton Towers into beautiful gardens, and the monument carries the inscription He made the desert smile, in tribute to his vision.
