Allies rescue stricken C-47 - Burma
American forces of the Air Service Command, Chindits and Burmese farmers of the local neighbourhood, who between them managed to put a C-47 back in the air, after the transport had become mired in a crater hole in a box within the Japanese perimeter in Burma. The reclamation crew was flown in by Captain Charles Herzog and the job was captained by Chief Warrant Officer Herbert Carr. The Americans repaired the ship and pulled it out of the hole with the aid of the Burmese, whilst Chindits maintained guard and aided in hauling."
