An aerial view of the site at Mari (modern Tell Hariri) in Syria. In the foreground can be seen the city, dating from 2600 B.C. and in the background the Palace. The site was rediscovered by accident in 1933 and subsequently excavated by a team of archaeologists from the Louvre, Paris, led by Andre Parrot. Date: 1935
