Adrian Jones with Peace sculpture
Captain Adrian Jones (1845-1938), sculptor, in his studio with the plaster cast of the allegorical figure of Peace, to be placed in the four-horse chariot (entitled Peace in her Quadriga, completed in 1912) on the Wellington Arch at Hyde Park Corner, Central London. The statue is three times the height of the sculptor himself. Jones retired from the army in 1890, and in 1891 set himself up in Chelsea as an artist. He had no formal art training, but prospered with commissions for horse portraits
