Admiral Maximilian von Spee (1861 1914) - A German Admiral who, during the First World War was given freedom to make his own decisions about how to handle his battles. On 8th December 1914 Spee made an attempt to raid a coaling station in the Falkland Islands, unaware that Britain had already sent two ships to protect the islands. Admiral Spees flagship and two other ships along with 2, 200 German sailors including Spees two sons were lost. Date: circa 1914
