9th Hampshire Regiment in Vladivostock
The 9th (Cyclist) Battalion of the Hampshire Regiment march through the streets of Vladivostock, about to set off for Omsk in Siberia, as part of the Allied Intervention Force in the Russian Civil War. They had arrived in Vladivostock from their previous posting in India at the end of November 1918, and were equipped with Arctic clothing before making the 23 day, 4000 mile rail journey to Omsk on the Trans-Siberian Railway, arriving on 7 January 1919. There, they formed part of a multi-national military presence supporting the anti-Bolshevik White forces. Moving on to Ekaterinburg in May 1919, they were forced to evacuate in August due to the rapid Bolshevik advance, and left Russia in November 1919
