5th Avenue, New York
5th avenues lower stretch extended the stylish neighborhood of Washington square northwards. The higher status was confirmed in 1862, after Caroline Schermerhorn Astor settled on the southwest corner of 34th street. This marked an end to its residential use for many, as with today only the very wealthy reside on New Yorks most famous street. Date: 1902
