1907 Imperial Conference - Discussions in Whitehall

The Imperial Conference of 1907 - convened in London on 15th April 1907 as the Colonial Conference, concluding on 14th May 1907. The Chairman of the conference was British Prime Minister Sir Henry Campbell-Bannerman. The conference decided to cease referring to self-governing British colonies as colonies and conferred upon them dominion status. Participants pictured here are (from left): Sir Joseph Ward (1856-1930) - Prime Minister of New Zealand, Sir Wilfrid Laurier (1841-1919) - Prime Minister of Canada, Sir Henry Campbell-Bannerman (1836-1908) - Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, The Earl of Elgin (1849-1917) - United Kingdom Secretary of State for the Colonies, Alfred Deakin (1856-1919) - Prime Minister of Australia, Sir Leander Starr Jameson, 1st Baronet (1853-1917) - Prime Minister of the Cape Colony, Louis Botha ) - South African politician (who was the first Prime Minister of the Union of South Africa) and Sir William Lyne (1844-1913) - Australian Minister for Trade and Customs.
