Fabulous Russian postcard featuring a reproduction of a painting by Boris Zvorykin (1897-1935) depicting Vladimir Sviatoslavich the Great, also sometimes spelled Volodymer (c. 958-1015) - the grand prince of Kiev who converted to Christianity in 988. His name is spelt in a variety of ways: in modern Ukrainian, for example, as Volodymyr; in Old Church Slavonic and modern Russian, as Vladimir; in Old Norse as Valdamarr; and, in modern Scandinavian as Valdemar.
