The Dewsbury Union workhouse on Healds Road at Staincliffe, West Yorkshire, during its First World War occupation as a military hospital. The workhouse porter and uniformed army officers stand at the gate. The workhouse opened in around 1856, with a large infirmary (left of picture) added in 1895. The site later became Staincliffe Hospital and then Dewsbury and District Hospital
