Capt (later Lt-Col) George William Patrick Dawes
Capt (later Lt-Col) George William Patrick Dawes (25 January 1881 to 17 March 1960) of the Royal Berkshire Regiment was the first serving officer of the British Army to be awarded a Pilots Certificate in England when he was awarded Certificate No17 for qualification on a Humber monoplane at Wolverhampton on 26 July 1910. He later served with the RFC during WW1 and with the RAF during WW2. Date: 1960
