The Pontcysyllte Aqueduct
A detail of one cast iron trough section from the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct near Wrexham. Designed by Thomas Telford and William Jessop and finished in 1805, the aqueduct is the longest and highest aqueduct in Britain, carrying the Llangollen canal 126ft above the River Dee. The structure was awarded UNESCO World Heritage Site status in June 2009
