Vought F-8 Crusader. An early F-8 - F8U, at the Naval Air Engineering Laboratory, on Mustin Field, part of the Philadelphia Naval Yard. Shot aircraft were used to qualify aircraft barriers for use on aircraft carriers, by being launched along a test track into the raised barrier under test. (The test track drag strop can be seen under the fuselage) Date: circa 1965
