Wall Art and Photo Gifts from Mary Evans Picture Library
Britain's First Foreign Postcard
In 1875 postcards were first allowed to be sent abroad. A Congress in Berne in 1875 agreed to the formation of the General Union of Posts within which Members could send postcards to each other. This Official card was slightly larger than the Official Inland card to allow for the longer addresses that would be needed. It has a One Penny Farthing Queen Victoria head stamp. Date: 1 July 1875
