The Archbishop of Canterbury addressing Working Men: Newcas
The church congress at Newcastle, in which the Archbishop of Canterbury at the time (Frederick Temple (Nov 1986- Dec 1902) addresses 6000 working men. The meeting was held in the congress hall in the first week of October 1900. The Archbishop delivered an address which emphasised the truth that there was always something in the Christian soul to lift a man above his trials. The clergy circling the archbishop are, (from left to right. The Bishops of Ripon, Derry, and Newcastle (leaning on his hand) Canon Gough(listening with his finger to his ear), the Bishop of Thetford, and Archdeacon Hamilton.
