Mrs Giles Borrett, first female BBC radio announcer
Mrs Giles Borrett (her stage name as an actress was Sheila Stewart), first female BBC radio announcer. She had a three-month trial, and received good notices, but her contract was terminated, probably because of prejudice against a female voice on the radio, and the fact that she was a married woman.
