The Liberation Gate Memorial, Dutch-Belgian border
This Memorial is just inside the Dutch border about 3 kms from Joes Bridge. In the battles before the start of the Market Garden Operation from Joes Bridge, the Guards having secured this area north of the bridge, then withdrew leaving the infantry to hold the ground - a military procedure known as Consolidation. The first Allied unit to set foot upon Dutch soil was a pair of 2nd Household Cavalry armoured cars of the Guards Armoured Division. Date: 2000
