Music cover for Godfreys Chilperic Quadrille
Music cover for Charles Godfreys Chilperic Quadrille, based on airs from Herves popular opera buffa (or operetta) Chilperic. Herves Chilperic was a medieval burlesque, based on the story of the Merovingian King Chilperic I (ruled 561-584). After launching in Paris in 1868, the operetta was put on at the Lyceum Theatre in London in 1870. The heroic-looking king is depicted on horseback, led by two ladies in short skirts. There are various other figures, including a man with a bad cold, a butterfly collector and two druids
