Lin Biao (1907 - 1971)
Lin Biao (Piao), Chinese Communist military leader, co-leader of the Manchurian Field Army of the Peoples Liberation Army, and played an important role in the Communist victory in the Chinese Civil War. He later became Mao Zedongs designated successor during the Cultural Revolution before dying in a plane crash in 1971, supposedly following a failed coup attempt. Date: 1937-1945
