An interior of a London cabmens shelter, 1890
An interior of a London cabmens shelter, 1890. There is room for eight or ten persons to sit comfortable at table, while the attendant in charge has his separate compartment and kitchen at the end. Food prices are regulated by an official tariff, and newspapers, popular magazine and a few books are available to read. The cost of creating a shelter, some 200 in 1890, was defrayed by generous donations and subscriptions to the Cabmens Shelter Fund.
