The shop of a colourman, Mr Allen, brightly painted in green. Colourmen would grind pigments and mix paint colours. Examples of pots of colours are displayed in the window. The artist, George Scharf, was born in Mainburg, Bavaria in 1788. He earned a living painting miniatures during the Napoleonic Wars and settled in England in 1816 where he set about composing an amazing collection of records in watercolours of all the important and interesting sights of the time.
